Sunoco retailers are suing Suncor Energy Inc. SU-T
over the Calgary-based company’s plans to sell or rebrand their gasoline service stations.
The retailers assert that Suncor’s plan to sell or rebrand about 300 Sunoco locations has violated an Ontario law governing franchise agreements.
The Sunoco franchise operators claim they’re entitled to compensation.
Suncor hasn’t commented publicly on the suit.
Last week, Suncor announced it will cut about 1,000 employees from its work force as it sells some of its natural gas and international assets.
That’s on top of 1,000 head office jobs cut last August following Suncor’s takeover of Petro-Canada.
