Alarm sounded over asset prices in emerging markets

A n international market monitoring group co-chaired by former Bank of Canada governor David Dodge is warning policy makers and investors about the growing risk of asset price distortions, particularly in emerging markets. Policy makers in many emerging market economies, notably in Asia and Latin America, are seeing strong inflows of foreign investment dollars that are helping boost their stock markets and, in some cases, their property markets, as stimulus money flows, Mr. Dodge said.

C anada’s wood products sector should be back in the black in 2010 after losing about $250-million this year, says a Conference Board of Canada study. “After years plagued by bad news, the wood products industry is on the road to recovery,” Michael Burt, associate director of the board’s Canadian Industrial Outlook, said in a news release Thursday.
